All India Institute of Medical Sciences, known as AIIMS, is among India’s top medical institutions. It draws aspirants from across India and even abroad due to its high academic standards and reputation. As of now, there are 26 AIIMS colleges in India, many of which are fully functional and some under development. A few campuses have started classes while their infrastructure is still being completed and expanded. AIIMS Vijaypur in Jammu began offering a BSc Nursing course starting from the academic year 2025 onward.
In February 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated six AIIMS campuses across various regions. These included AIIMS Vijaypur, AIIMS Rajkot, AIIMS Bathinda, AIIMS Rae Bareli, and AIIMS Kalyani campuses.
Earlier, AIIMS conducted its own MBBS entrance test until it was replaced by NEET in 2020 admissions cycle.
From 2021-22 onward, MBBS admission to all AIIMS colleges is through NEET, the national entrance exam.

The government is setting up a new AIIMS with the objective of making medical education affordable. The government wants to add more undergraduate and post-graduate seats in medical colleges, including AIIMS. This will help fill the gap in the number of doctors in the country. How to Take Admission to AIIMS in India?
Admission to the courses offered by AIIMS in India is through an entrance test only. The Institute has a separate ‘Examination Section’ which is a competent authority for conducting these entrance tests and the corresponding counselling sessions.
